The MHP Industry Mentorship is an opportunity for members of the MHP and the Industry Alliance to open conversations centred around research questions.
Senior professionals within MHP Industry Alliance organisations work with MHP researchers in a consultative ‘roundtable’ setting to increase MHP researchers’ knowledge of how to progress their science along the industry value chain.
At the request of the researcher and as appropriate to the ideas being discussed, lived experience experts can also form part of the roundtable discussions.
Benefits for Researcher Mentees
- Understand industry priorities, projects and new therapeutic/diagnostic areas
- Understand working in industry and better understand their perspective and needs
- Build advice on emerging ideas
You must be an MHP researcher to take part and be linked with Industry Alliance members.

Benefits for Mentors
- Build relationships with researchers at the cutting edge of the field
- Understand current trends in research
- Share expertise to develop next generation of researchers
Mentors will be contacted by the MHP Coordinating Team with information about relevant researcher mentees.
See below for more about being a mentor.
There are no restrictions or conditions associated with the mentoring programme. This ‘no-strings attached’ policy encourages open dialogue between mentors and mentees.
For Researcher Mentees
When you submit your expression of interest sign-up form, the Coordinating Team will identify and contact potential mentors from the Industry Alliance.
You will be matched with an industry partner based on shared interests. The programme facilitates an initial online meeting to help you build connections, explore career pathways, and exchange ideas.
There is no obligation beyond this first meeting, but it may open the door to future mentorship, collaboration, or career opportunities.
- MHP researchers (including Early Career Researchers and those with lived experience)
- MHP Associate Members
Researchers can sign up for the Industry Mentoring programme by completing the form below.
You'll be expected to share a bit about your research as well as your contact details.
For Mentors
This initiative offers a simple, flexible opportunity to meet and mentor researchers based on shared research and innovation interests. Based on the scientific interests already shared in your company’s Industry Alliance or PPIE Network application, we will link you with researchers for an initial introductory meeting online, as they apply.
At this introductory meeting, you would hear about the research first hand, and have the opportunity to ask questions.
You would be expected to provide some feedback and any suggestions for making the project more attractive to industry, or to improve the PPIE aspects, depending on your expertise.
There is no formal commitment beyond this first meeting. However, we hope it will spark valuable ongoing relationships, collaborations, or future opportunities.
If you signed up as member of the Industry Alliance, you are already on the list of potential mentors who can be contacted.
If your company has signed up, but you aren't sure if your name has been noted as a potential mentor, please drop our Coordinating Team a message at mhp@ed.ac.uk with the subject line Industry mentorship: mentor position
If you are a member of the PPIE Steering Group, or if you signed up as member of the PPIE Network, you are already on the list of potential mentors who can be contacted.
If you have a particular interest in being a mentor for a specific research area, please drop our Coordinating Team a message at mhp@ed.ac.uk with the subject line Industry mentorship: mentor position
