Our values

The Mental Health Platform is a collaboration between six UK-based Hubs, a Coordinating Centre team, and cross-Hub researchers, working together with people with lived experience of mental health illnesses towards a better and more holistic understanding of severe mental illness. Our collective efforts focus on improving diagnosis, treatments, and support for people who experience mental illness, their families, friends and wider communities.

Our approach is underpinned by a set of values:

The mental health platform is solution focused and committed to conducting high quality research that can translate into impactful developments benefitting people with severe mental illness.

The mental health platform is a research partnership involving university-based academics, people with lived experience third sector and industry partners. All activities are underpinned by research integrity through the rigorous conduct and funding of research, reliability, honesty, respect and accountability.

The mental health platform promotes transparency, collaborative decision-making and accessible communication of research. We will share data with trusted, approved researchers to improve outcomes for people with severe mental illness, while ensuring research integrity and data security.

The mental health platform will work toward being equitable in our approach, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, sexuality, faith, class, sex, or gender. We will conduct equity impact assessments and prioritise meaningful public involvement and lived expertise   in our research.

The mental health platform fosters collaboration and mutual learning to deliver impactful research. Building an inclusive, respectful research culture is key. We commit to kindness, responsible resource use, and open, supportive communication. Discrimination and harassment are never acceptable.
