In March 2026, the MHP invited Boehringer Ingelheim to meet online and hear more about the research across the Hubs.
Industry Alliance
At the MHP, we want to build a trusted relationship with Industry. We created the Industry Alliance which brings together Industry partners, MHP researchers, people with lived experience from MHP & DATAMIND, and innovation teams from NHS & universities. The Alliance is supported by Medicines Discovery Catapult.
There have already been two in-person Industry Forums, with a third due to happen in the coming months. Each forum has focused on different themes, but all have the purpose of starting a conversation between members of different areas of expertise.
Now, the relationships are moving forward. Individuals from Boehringer Ingelheim attended the first forum in 2025, and expressed enthusiasm for the research and PPIE activities at the MHP.
To further the conversation, researchers from all six Hubs met with members of Boehringer online. Researchers presented current work, which highlighted the range of science across the MHP. People with lived experience (PWLE) from some of the Hubs also presented their roles in the research. One attendee said:
I have been impressed and inspired by the talks today.
Value of collaboration
The presentations were a jumping-off point for discussion. Hub researchers, PWLE representatives and Boehringer employees will have the continued opportunity to delve into some of the questions and shared challenges together.
Scientists who work in industry and scientists who work at academic institutions like the Hubs are similarly dedicated to their research. All Industry Alliance members have a shared goal to collaboratively address the most pressing challenges around diagnosis, management and treatment of severe mental illness.
With Industry support, research findings get a boost and can move closer to reaching the people who need them. Discussions like these with Industry partners are intended to build relationships which could one day lead to joint research projects. One attendee said:
Everyone at the meeting had a shared common purpose of better outcomes for people with severe mental illness.
Working together
The MHP is keen to turn this common purpose into action, while always championing the voices of PWLE. We are in the process of developing an Industry-focused PPIE group which will support this work going forward.
The Industry Alliance will continue to use shared goals to bring members together, and try to eliminate barriers which stand in the way of developments which would improve the lives of people with severe mental illness.
